Wax Carving for Lost Wax Casting: September 21 from 10:00-2:00

The sky is the limit in this class: bring your design ideas to learn how to create sculptural wax carvings that can be cast into one-of-a-kind jewelry. 

Carving wax is a great way to experiment with an affordable material to make a wide range of beautiful and exciting jewelry shapes. The shapes are completely unique and difficult to make using metal wire and sheet. The process allows for a wide range of artistic styles from minimalism to extremely intricate.

The beauty of learning this skill is that as long as your have a flexshaft or Dremel, you can do these carvings at home!  At the end of class, you will have the option to arrange to have your wax carving cast by instructor Denali Moore for an additional charge.  

Students will learn:

• Fundamentals of designing in wax
• How to use different flex shaft attachments for wax carving
• Finishing and refining techniques that reduces cleanup after casting

Details:

• Monday, September 21 from 10:00-2:00
• Ages 14+ located at the Silver Peak Studio Classroom 100 E. Cleveland St Lafayette 80026
• # students: 3 minimum, 6 maximum
• Materials kit fee is $25 which includes: wax. If you wish for the instructor to cast your pieces into sterling silver or bronze, that will be charged at current market rates at time of class plus a flask fee.
• Each student will work at their own dedicated jeweler's bench. 
• Prerequisite: none

Instructor: Denali Moore 

Denallie graduated with their BFA in Metals & Jewelry from the University of Wyoming in 2020 and now works as a goldsmith and bench jeweler at a fine jewelry store in Fort Collins. They hope to spread some of the knowledge they have acquired with the rest of their community to make metalsmithing techniques more accessible to artists of all backgrounds.
