Recommended Curriculum

We get asked which class would be the "next step".  This is dependent on your goals, but below is a general guideline of what we recommend:

Foundational Metalsmithing Classes (Fabrication):

  • First: Intro to Metalsmithing (Metals 1) or Beginning Metalsmithing weekend class (Metals 1 & 2: ring)
  • Second: Metals 2: choose from Stone Statement Ring, Stone Pendant, or Stone Earrings. All of these classes will teach you how to make custom bezels and bezel-set cabochons.  You can take any or all 3 of these Metal 2 classes.
  • Then choose from whichever is on the schedule next, as these rotate once every 2-4 months:
    • Cold Connections: Riveting (how to connect metal without using heat).
    • Soldering Techniques
    • Handcrafted Findings: Ear-wires, Headpins, & Clasps
    • Professional finishing
