Hinged Cuff Bracelet with Michele Throne: October 24 & 25
Create a beautifully designed cuff bracelet that stays comfortably in place—without constantly rolling around on your wrist! In this intermediate workshop, students will learn how to fabricate a unique hinged cuff bracelet featuring an alternative hinge design and a custom tension clasp.
The hinged focal point of the bracelet offers plenty of opportunities for creativity. Design a decorative metal element or, if you have previous stone-setting experience, incorporate a stone into your bracelet design. You'll learn how to combine fabrication techniques with thoughtful design to create a functional, comfortable, and one-of-a-kind piece of wearable jewelry.
This workshop is designed for students who already have soldering experience and feel comfortable using an acetylene torch. Students planning to incorporate a stone should also have previous stone-setting experience.
In this workshop, students will learn:
- How to design a cuff bracelet for a comfortable and secure fit
- How to measure and size a cuff bracelet
- How to create an alternative hinge mechanism
- How to fabricate and assemble a functional hinged bracelet
- How to create and adjust a tension clasp
- How to solder and assemble multiple components
- How to incorporate a decorative metal focal point
- Optional: How to incorporate a stone into the bracelet design for students with previous stone-setting experience
- How to refine, finish, and polish a completed cuff bracelet
Please come to class with a few design ideas! We recommend keeping your design relatively simple so you can focus on learning the techniques and have the best opportunity to complete your bracelet during the workshop. Remember—this is a learning experience, so avoid over-designing your project. You'll have plenty of opportunities to make the bracelet uniquely your own while building skills you can use in future jewelry designs.

She’s been a full time jeweler for 11 years, and has been teaching art since 1998 and metalsmithing since 2012. She has taught jewelry workshops for over a decade.
Her deep love and appreciation for everything outdoors and love for people inspire her to create jewelry focused on nature and the human experience.
A few of Michele's favorite things: rock climbing, unlikely animal friendship videos, and chai tea on her back deck on a summer morning.
