Learn the fundamentals of channel setting, a classic stone-setting technique used to securely set multiple gemstones between two parallel walls of metal. Channel setting creates a clean, streamlined look while protecting the stones within the metal setting.

In this hands-on workshop, you will learn the techniques used to create a uniform channel-set design using round 2.5mm CZ faceted gemstones. You’ll learn how to work with stones that are consistent in size and shape, prepare the setting, and securely set the stones in a into a cast sterling silver ring created by Cheyenne

Prerequisite: Metals 1, and either Flush Setting or Prong Setting.

At Silver Peak Jewelry Arts, our workshops are intentionally limited to six students to ensure every participant receives personalized instruction and one-on-one guidance.

Instruction is led by a professional metalsmith with over a decade of experience worksing as a fine jeweler. You'll learn industry-standard techniques, develop precision craftsmanship, and gain the confidence to incorporate advanced stone-setting methods into your own work.

Ages: 14+

Class Size: Minimum 3 students | Maximum 6 students

Materials Fee: Approximately $50–$60, payable at the beginning of class by cash, check, or Venmo. The materials kit includes:

  • Cast sterling silver ring band (priced at current metal market value; estimated $40)
  • Cubic zirconia stones
  • Drill bits
  • Flush-setting bur

Each student will work at their own fully equipped jeweler's bench. OptiVISOR magnifiers (up to 3x) are available to borrow. If you require higher magnification, please bring your own visor or magnification system.

Cancellation Policy

The last day to cancel for a refund or transfer is October 23, 2026. A $25 transfer fee applies to transferred registrations.

      Cheyenne Hughes bio picCheyenne is a Denver native who's been practicing jewelry making since 2009. Over that time he's been fortunate enough to have apprenticed under the accomplished jeweler/blacksmith Ira Sherman. That 6 year apprenticeship landed him a job as a bench jeweler working for platinum and gold expert John Sholl of J.F. Sholl Fine Jewelry in Littleton, CO.

      Cheyenne is currently running his own jewelry studio in Denver where he offers casting and other jewelry production services to the general public as well as other jewelers.
