Findings 101: Creative Clasps & Ear-wires: July 19 from 12:00-4:00

Ear-wires and clasps don’t have to be boring! In this class, we will complete five projects
designed to explore a variety of wire and metalworking techniques. Students will use
copper, sterling silver and Argentium silver wire in various gauges to create three
different pairs of earrings, an S clasp and a toggle clasp. Expand your wire working
skills and fuel your creativity! Previous wire working experience helpful but not required.

You will learn:

• Studio and butane torch safety
• How to select appropriate gauges and hardness of wire for each project
• How to shape wire with hands and hand tools
• Texturing wire with hammers and stamps
• How to create wire-wrapped bead dangles
• Making jump rings and hoops, with and without a butane torch
• Making ball ends on wire with a butane torch
• Fusing Argentium wire with a butane torch
• Creating two different clasp designs
• Creating three different ear wire designs

• 4 contact hours, ages 13+ at the Silver Peak Gallery Classroom located at 100 E. Cleveland St. Lafayette 80026 
  
• # students: 3 minimum, 6 maximum
• Materials are $30 and includes metals and gemstone beads
• Prerequisite: none

About the instructor, Kathy Pinover

Kathy is Inspired by the beauty of nature and the craftmanship of vintage and fine jewelry. She learned beading techniques through formal classes and studied metalsmithing at Clear Creek Academy of Jewelry and Metal Arts in Denver. She continues to build upon her skills at Silver Peak Studio. In 2004 she opened her business and since created nearly 2500 uniquely designed and handcrafted pieces sold in galleries, boutiques, shows and online. Her passion is creating handmade beaded chains to which she may add metal-smithed embellishments to create one of a kind artisan jewelry.
