Warm yourself by the kiln and make your own cloisonné piece this winter! You will learn the ancient technique of enameling designs using glass powder and thin wire (copper or fine silver). You will also make patterns and choose colors for your unique design.
Cloisonné is a technique that requires patience and delicacy but yields incredibly detailed and beautiful results. It is a must-have tool for any aspiring enamellist.
We will cover:
- Selection of type of metal and enamels
- Cleaning metal for application
- How to form and secure cloisonné wire
- How to apply enamels
- Kiln use
- Clean-up of metal
Details:
- Sunday, January 25 from 9:30-5:30
- Class is held in the Silver Peak Jewelry Arts located at 100 E. Cleveland St Lafayette 80026
- 8 contact hours, ages 14+
- # students: 3 minimum, 6 maximum
- Materials kit fee is $50 and includes copper metal base, copper cloisonné wire, and enamels. You may upgrade to fine silver which will be charged at current metal market rates at time of class.
- Each student will work at their own dedicated jeweler's bench. (No need to buy tools!)
- Prerequisite: Metals 1, Intro to Metalsmithing, Enameling 101 (Kiln) or Torch-Fired Enameling or equivalent experience.
The last day to cancel your registration for a refund or transfer ($25 transfer fee will apply) is January 11, 2025.

Instructor: Denallie (Dee) Moore (They/Them)
Denallie graduated with their BFA in Metals & Jewelry from the University of Wyoming in 2020 and now works as a goldsmith and bench jeweler at a fine jewelry store in Fort Collins. They hope to spread some of the knowledge they have acquired with the rest of their community to make metalsmithing techniques more accessible to artists of all backgrounds.
